OUR ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR

By the end of 2010, some 610 Farmer Associations have been formed in 562 villages, 130 communes of 60 districts in 12 provinces (Kandal; Kampong Cham; Kampong Thom, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo; Kampong Speu; Pursat, Battambang; Pailin, Siem Reap and Banteay Meanchey). Srer Khmer has delivered a wide range of farmer led training to more than 35,787 farmers (48% of whom were women), farmer trainers and Government District Trainers (about 178,935 farmers family beneficiaries). The main methodology has been the Farmer Field School (FFS - participatory and discovery learning approach) and extension approaches.

5. Training, Research, Consultancy and Services. Some services are included trainings related to Integrated Farmer Field  School, Farmer Life School, Socio-economic analysis, integrated homestead production, farmer association management, business planning, participatory marketing studies, project management/PME, knowledge management, Training of Trainers, and other topics related to natural resource management; ecological agriculture and rural development, participatory research and analysis, organizing and facilitating training and workshops at the provincial and national levels.

CURRENT PROJECTS AND PAST

ON-GOING PROJECTS --- 2010-2011

1. Pursat Food Security and Nutrition project - in partnership with USIAD-HARVEST to implement the said project in Pursat with 12 villages for 18 months starting from October 2011.

2. Civil Society and Pro-Poor Market- in partnership with The Asia Foundation (TAF)funding supported to implement a project based in Kampong Speu province. This project aimed to reduce vulnerability and improved livelihoods of rural poor depending on natural resources under NRML DANIDA/DFID no-extension cost until November 2011. 

3. Conduct training to Cashew Farmer Associations and Training was supported by EC-IFC-Phase 2  for a 5 month period in Kampong Cham and Kampong Thom from July 2010 to December 2010 and may extension up to June 2011. This project works in cooperation with GRET (a French NGO specialized in Agriculture and Rural Development) to provide training on the following topics:

  • Farmer Association Management
  • Organic cashew production methods
  • Internal Control Systems for organic registration
  • Pre and Post cashew harvest management

4. Extension of SRI techniques to improve farmer resilience  – supported by Oxfam America to implement a Farmer Field Schools (FFS) on the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) and seed breeding in Pursat and Kampong Speu provinces from June 2010 to April 2013.

5. Increasing Dialogue for Empowerment and Actions (IDEA)- in partnership Catholic Relief Services (CRS) with funding supported from the United Stated Government implemented a project based in Kampong Cham province. This project aimed to reduce vulnerability and improved livelihoods of Muslim Cham rural poor depending on natural resources and other agriculture, value chain and marketing activities. This is a 2year project started from October 2010 and will be ended by September 2012.

6. Integrated Farming and Marketing for Livelihood Improvement project – is supported AusAID’s Community Development Fund to implement a two year project in Pursat province from Feb 2010 to January 2012 for rice improvement, and homestead production and marketing.

7. Supporting Land Rights for Small Household Farmers towards Livelihood Security for poor farmers in Banteay Meanchey and Battambang provinces in post conflict food security supported by Norwegian Peoples Aid (NPA) since 2002. This year NPA is to cover from January to December 2010 with possible extension until the end of December 2011.

8. Development project – supported by Latter Day Saint Charity (LDSC) to provide training on home garden and chicken production to the farmer groups in Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham and Siem Reap provinces. This project is implemented from Feb 2010 to Dec 2010 and another project is implemented in Kampong Cham until December 2011.

9. Farmer Field School- Chicken Production – in getting contract from CARE EC Food Security project implemented a pilot FFS on chicken production in Pailin province for a period of 3 months and ends on March 2010. Another one year project is on the process to cover from 1 April 2010 to April 2011.

10. Agricultural inputs distribution – in partnership with FAO-EUFF implement a project to distribute agricultural inputs to household affected by the volatile food prices in Kampong Speu province. This project started from April 2010 and will be ended on April 2011.

 

COMPLETED PROJECTS

  1. FFS on System of Rice Intensification and Book Keeping in partnership with Oxfam America in Phnom Penh to implement a pilot nine months pilot project in Pursat province. This Oxfam America funded project started from July 2009 to March 2010. Learn more

  4. Integrated Farming and Marketing for Livelihood Improvement - in partnership with NZAID based in Bangkok, Thailand to implement a supplementary project supported by CRS in Siem Reap. This NZAID SGP funded project started from November 2007 and will be finished in October 2009. Learn more
  5. Agro-biodiversity Used and Market Development Contributing to Food and Livelihood Security - in partnership with PEDIGREA Association based in the Philippines and received funding from Dutch Biodiversity Fund (HIVOS and Oxfam Novib) to implement this project in 3 provinces including Kampong Speu, Kandal and Takeo. This is a regional project led by Co-Coordinator of PEDIGREA and technical support from CGN/WUR based in the Netherlands. This is a 2 years project started from January 2007 to December 2008 and which is build from the past 5 years of this areas. Learn more

  9. Rural Ecological Agriculture for Livelihood (REAL) - supported by KEMI/SIDA through the Field Alliances (TFA) based in Bangkok, Thailand, to implement a project in Kampong Cham province. This is a 3 years project which is currently implemented phase 1 which is a regional project led by KEMI and FAO Vegetable IPM programme: "Towards a non-toxic environment in South-East Asia."   11. Development of cashew nut farmer association and Training. in partnership with IFC/MPDF implemented a 3 month pilot project in Kampong Cham and Kampong Thom started from January to April 2009.
  12. LEARN IT Project supported by ADB/CARDI to assist in implementation of CRKB to assist farmers to make rice management decisions to improve productivity and profitability in Prey Veng, Svay Rieng and Pursat provinces. Learn more

  15. Establishment of Village Fruit Nurseries in 4 Selected Village, Banteay Meanchey - with financial support from EC's ECOSORN project implemented this project Banteay Meanchey province. This is a one year project to be completed on December 2008. Learn more

Small Scale Irrigation System to Support Livelihood Security - as top-up grant to the GEF funded project,  this UNDP TRAC FUND project is implemented in Kampong Cham province to ensure water supplies to increasing agriculture productivity and diversification of community and improve safe drinking water.   17. Agro-Chemicals and Value Added Agri-Services - supported by IFC/MPDF to implement a short term consultancy to Maddox Julie Pitt (MJP) in Samlaut district, Battambang province. This project will end December 2007.
  18. Support of Mine Clearance for Development Project - with financial support from EC's ECOSORN project implemented a post-deming agriculture activity in Taven village, Morng Reussey district, Battambang province.   19. Provision of Facilitation of Community Flood Management (CBFM) and School - supported by the ADPC office based in Bangkok, Thailand, to implement a pilot project in Prey Veng and Kandal provinces. This is a 4 months project and will end September 2007.

  28. Insect Ecological Identification and Training Project, supported by the Dietrick Foundation, USA 2002–2005, to support organic farmers and to eliminate pesticide use. Learn more.
  29. The Participatory Plant Breeding Project (PPB) The PPB project was supported by the Center for Genetic Resources, Wageningen University Research and the PEDIGREA Foundation, Asia focused on participatory crop and poultry genetic resources in rice-based farming systems in Kandal, Takeo, Battambang and Kompong Speu provinces.   30. In cooperation with DANIDA-IPM Project, in 2006 Srer Khmer was the resource organization in developing training guides on topics related to livelihood improvement and training to strengthen farmer groups in capacity building, organization and management, marketing, and exchange visits, etc. Learn more.
  31. In cooperation with other agencies: FAO/National IPM to facilitate training of Farmer Trainers in Prey Veng province; with TCP/CMB capacity building post FFS; and with Care Cambodia FLS training in Battambang province. Srer Khmer has conducted external project evaluations for other NGOs, and CRS (Svay Rieng province), training for Mlup Baitong (Kg. Speu province), training materials for Danida–NRM-CDC and a horticultural consultancy for VSO (Stung Treng province). Learn more.
